  1. At what age should children start learning a foreign language?

I think children should start learning a foreign language as early as possible, maybe around age six or seven. At that age, their brains are very flexible, and they can pick up sounds easily. For example, I started learning English in elementary school, and I quickly remembered simple words and songs. Children who start young usually have better pronunciation because they copy sounds more naturally. Of course, learning later is also possible, but it often takes more effort. So, starting early gives children a big advantage, not only in language but also in understanding different cultures.

  2. Which skill is more important, speaking or writing?

I think speaking is more important, especially in daily life. For example, if you travel abroad, you need to ask for directions, order food, or talk to locals. Writing is useful too, but in many real situations, speaking is the key to communication. Personally, when I practice English, I feel more nervous about speaking than writing, because it’s harder to organize thoughts quickly. Writing allows you to think more carefully and correct mistakes. But if I had to choose, I would say speaking is more important, because it directly connects you with people in real time.

  3. Does a person still need to learn other languages if he or she is good at English?

Yes, I think it’s still useful. English is international, but other languages open new doors. For example, if someone wants to work in Japan, learning Japanese will help them connect better with local people and culture. Even though English can be used in many places, knowing another language shows respect and makes communication easier. I once met a Korean exchange student who spoke both English and Chinese. That gave her more opportunities to make friends. So, learning another language besides English is not only practical but also makes life richer and more interesting.

  4. Do you think minority languages will disappear?

Sadly, I think some minority languages may disappear, because fewer people speak them. For example, in Taiwan, many young people speak Mandarin more often than their local dialects, like Hakka. Over time, if children don’t learn these languages, they could be lost. However, efforts can be made to protect them. Some schools now teach local dialects, and governments encourage cultural events. If communities value their language and keep teaching it to the next generation, it can survive. So, while there is a risk of disappearance, I believe with enough effort, minority languages can still be preserved.
