  1. Why do people like to have a big meal at traditional festivals or big events?

People love big meals at festivals because it’s a way to celebrate and bring everyone together. Take Lunar New Year in Taiwan, for example. My whole family gets together for a huge feast with all our favorite dishes. It’s not just about the food, but about the tradition and spending time with loved ones. Big meals are also a way to show hospitality and generosity. Like, when my cousin got married, the wedding banquet was massive! It was the family’s way of sharing their joy with all the guests. These special meals create memories and help mark important occasions. Plus, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good feast?

  2. Is it bad behavior for people to look at their phones during a meal?

Yeah, I think it’s pretty rude to be on your phone during a meal. It’s like you’re not really there with the people you’re eating with. For example, last week my family had dinner together, and my brother kept checking his phone. It made my parents feel ignored, and the conversation wasn’t as fun. Meals are a great time to talk and connect with people. If you’re always looking at your phone, you miss out on that. Plus, it’s kind of disrespectful to the person who cooked the food. I think it’s best to put phones away during meals and focus on the food and the company.

  3. Do most people prefer vegetables bought from thesupermarket or grown at home?

I think most people in cities like Taipei buy veggies from supermarkets because it’s convenient. But there’s definitely a growing trend of people preferring home-grown vegetables. My neighbor has a small balcony garden where she grows tomatoes and herbs. She says they taste way better than store-bought ones. Home-grown veggies are fresher and you know exactly how they were grown. But not everyone has the time or space to grow their own. My family usually buys from the supermarket, but we love it when my grandma shares vegetables from her garden. They just seem to have more flavor, you know?

  4. Are there any difficulties when people grow plants in cities?

Growing plants in cities can be pretty challenging. The main problem is space. Like, in my apartment building, we don’t have yards, so people try to grow stuff on balconies or windowsills. My mom tried to grow some herbs, but our balcony doesn’t get enough sunlight. Pollution can be an issue too. My friend’s dad had to stop growing vegetables on their rooftop because the air quality wasn’t great. There’s also the problem of pests. In the city, you can’t use strong pesticides, so bugs can be hard to control. And if you’re in an apartment, carrying soil and equipment up stairs can be a real pain!
